The little U.S. map above links you to a full outline map of the U.S.

It's not at my website though, so to return here, click on your back (arrow) button.

Please let me let me know if any link on this page (or at my website) is no longer working

as websites often change and delete links without even letting me know!  (Imagine!!!) And I never

check this (U.S. Map) page myself. Click here to go to a page with customizable U.S. maps!

~* ALSO *~

I have created and provided this

page as a service (and gift) to homeschoolers.

If you find any broken links, I do appreciate your

telling me, but what I would REALLY appreciate is if

you'd find me a new link to take its place as I don't

have time to do such searching myself.

Directions and ideas for using this chart...

First, in case you're wondering, I put these directions at the bottom of the page so they wouldn't have to be on your child's work page!

Carlianne and I decided it would be nice for both of us to know the locations of the 50 states. Not as a pride thing; just cuz it's very handy, not to mention embarrassment-preventing when non-homeschoolers are around and you're looking for Montana down where Georgia is!    So I made up this chart for Carlianne to use in learning the 50 states!

The first column entitled "PRE-TEST" is to be done BEFORE you start studying the states. I wish I'd had Carlianne do that first so that she could see her tremendous progress, because she knew very few other than our Pacific coast states, New York where she's visited, and a few states where I've spoken. It was the presidential elections, by the way, that spurred this interest!

After studying the states for several days, for just a few minutes a day, she got 44 out of the 50!  My suggestion is to have your child do the pre-test at the beginning of the week. Then have them study them for just few minutes each day, and on Friday do the "1ST CHECK." (I would suggest you use two or three different maps so they don't just get used to only one.) They probably won't get them all the first time, so keep studying them a little each day until they do get them all, testing every Friday. Hopefully it won't take more than the three weeks I have columns for! ;-D

Why not have them study for longer periods (minutes) and for a shorter period of time (days)? You're welcome to do whatever you want, but I think that stretching it out over a longer period of time ~ several days or weeks ~ is going to make it sink in and stick better. So they won't be 48, like me, and still know only maybe half of them!!!  Doing it in one big lump is cramming, which we all know the effectiveness of!  ;-)

You may have also noticed there's a link on this page to another page at my site that has the six regions of the U.S. all color-coded. Just a little bonus that I got from a colorforms-type map of the U.S. that we've had for years. (where all the states are individual plastic forms that stick to the blank map)  It's no biggie; just for those interested in that. I'm not having Carlianne memorize that, but I do want her to be aware of what these states are called, area-wise.

There's also a link above, in the colorful map of the U.S., to a blank map of the U.S. This will take you OUT of my website, so you'll need to use your BACK button to get back to my website.
